A brush fire flares up near a homeless community near the river Sunday afternoon.
The Grand Junction Fire Department received the call around 3:30 p.m. The fire was burning south of the river near Albertson’s off Power Road. It was about one-quarter acre in size.
Authorities were able to extinguish the fire and prevent it from going into the homeless camps. It was completely out around 4:30 p.m. The fire department says if wind had been a factor, there would have been a much greater threat.
