For once, parents are okay with their kids getting dirty. It was all part of Saturday's first annual Filthy 5K benefiting a great cause.
The event invited the whole family out Saturday morning for a muddy time. There were two races: one for the youngsters and one open to those 14 years old and above.
Einstein Bagels sponsored the children’s one and a half miler, and many other vendors lined up to serve the slop covered runners. Proceeds from the first ever event will benefit the United Way of Mesa County.
Major mud pits, car climbing and creek crossings are among the many obstacles participants traversed at the Matchett Park course.
Registration was 30 dollars and 30 percent of the proceeds will be donated to United Way. The event coordinator says over 300 participants showed up.
