GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) September is National Yoga Month and yoga instructors are encouraging people to get out their mats and start stretching.

“We’re realizing the value of stretching and of flexibility in our lives," said Donna Wasneski, a registered yoga teacher. "We do need balance in our lives. We need strength in our lives. We need aerobic exercise or cardio. We need flexibility. We need all of them.”

Practicing yoga shapes and betters the body, while also relaxing the mind.

“It also can provide a good body and mind connection,” Wasneski said.

Yoga is offered for a variety of levels and poses can be modified to either be easier or more difficult depending on a person's experience and fitness level.

“I suggest that you try many different yoga classes and try different teachers that teach the same class because you’ll benefit from every single class that you’re able to take,” Wasneski said.
