GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. The National Weather Service has declared this week National Flood Safety Awareness Week, and is trying to educate people across the country about the danger floods pose.
Here in Colorado the NWS is adding another component to the week, wildfires.
Experts say floods and wildfires fit hand-in-hand in the Centennial State, because many times one can cause the other.
"Some of the most devastating flash-floods in Colorado history have occurred in areas where there have been wildfires within the past 2-3 years," says NWS Warning Coordination Meteorologist Jim Pringle.
Each day of the week, the National Weather Service is releasing daily statements to help educate people across Colorado.
