FRUITA, Colo. (KKCO) – A local mom uses social media to bring women in the community together. Debra Williams faces a lot of challenges being the wife of an oil-rigger. Her husband spends weeks, sometimes months away from the family for his work. Often, he receives very short notice before being sent out on job.

“There are a lot of hard parts, but a lot of it is day to day just getting through each day with the kids, I have four of them so that is quite a challenge,” Williams explains.

Heath Dennis works at Premier Oil and understands what it can be like when you work in the oil fields, “For a long time I kept a pair of jeans and boots by the door and when it’s time to go it doesn’t matter if it’s dinner time or two o’clock in the morning- it’s time to go and get up for work.”

Williams created a Facebook page, “Western Slope Oilfield Wives” just two days ago, and it already has over 50 likes.

Williams hopes women in the community can come together by sharing their experiences, having lunch, going out and supporting one another while their loved ones are away at work.
