GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) The City of Fruita made a stand at Tuesday nights City Council meeting and passed 3 ordinances concerning the retail sale of and use of marijuana.

The first ordinance bans the sale of recreational marijuana and any testing facility in the City of Fruita.

The second and third will put questions to the people of Fruita on the 2014 ballot. One will be whether to ban retail marijuana operations entirely, and the other will be to possibly implement a 5% sales tax on recreational marijuana.

Before the council passed the ordinances, they took public comment on the issues surrounding retail marijuana operations.
Many community members, including a few boy scouts, spoke out against the retail sale of marijuana. Those community members say they were glad to have their voices heard.
