GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) -- Grand Junction City Councilman and District 51 Board of Education member Harry Butler has died.

According to a release from Grand Junction Police, Butler died just before 5 p.m. Sunday from natural causes while working in the yard of a rental home he owned.

Butler was 69-years-old and served on City Council from 2001-2005. He was then re-elected to the council this April. He also served eight years on the Board of Education.

Out of respect for his passing, the city council's Monday meetings will be canceled. The discussion about the Avalon, which was scheduled for tonight, will be moved to the city council meeting on Wednesday, June 5.

To open that meeting, city councilors will read a proclamation honoring Butler's service to the city.

They will discuss his replacement at a later time, according to a release from the city.
