GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. A Grand Junction High School senior is not only grabbing the attention of his school, but also the state. His music has already impressed the judges in a tough competition.

Andrew Foutz is a senior at Grand Junction High School and since he was a freshman he's been working hard to make his musical dreams come true.

His hard work has finally paid off. Andrew made All-State for band, choir, orchestra and jazz band.

"I made three last year, but this year I got four," said Foutz.

Issac Lavadie, the Director of Bands, says Andrew faced some steep competition.

"Denver School of the Arts, those kind of schools, great public schools and private schools and for someone on the Western Slope to make it, that is huge," said Lavadie.

Lavadie has been teaching Andrew music for four years and describes him as an exceptional student.

"He is definitely one of a kind, I haven't experienced anyone like him in my program and I doubt I will," said Lavadie.

And his choir teacher is singing the same tune when it comes to his musical abilities.

"Andrew is musical, is expressive, which is really something far beyond his years for being a high school student," said Marcia Wieland, Choir Director at Grand Junction High School.

This music driven student says he's following in his family's footsteps when it comes to his accomplishments.

"I've always wanted to make All-State's just because my mom made All-State in Arizona when she was a junior and senior. She also made choir and my dad made All-State band when he was in high school," said Foutz.

Andrew is looking forward to his competitions and is proud to represent the Western Slope.

"It's fun to represent the Western Slope and show where my home roots are," said Foutz.
