GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. Many stores got an early start to black Friday by opening their doors early on Thursday. Best Buy and the Mesa Mall are just a few places to do this. Officials with the Mall say that having the earlier times should help with customers safety.

Best Buy opened at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday while the Mesa Mall opened their doors at 7:00 p.m. with shops many shops opening at 8pm. Both places will be open till 10:00 p.m. closing time on Friday. Black Friday has become a shopping tradition for many families.

Because Thanksgiving was later this year, many stores are hoping that by opening on Thanksgiving they will get them a little extra revenue for the holidays. This year's holiday shopping time between Thanksgiving and Christmas is less than usual. Since Thanksgiving is on the 28th it only leaves 26 shopping days before Christmas. Last year there were 32 day to shop.

This is the shortest number of shopping days between Thanksgiving and Christmas in the last 10 years.
