Grief support for the holidays

Grand Junction, Colo. (KKCO) - The holidays are a joyful time for most, but for some people, they're difficult because they are reminded of a lost loved one.

Officials at Hospice and Palliative Care of Western Colorado say the holidays bring a lot of tradition and obligation, which is not always the best thing when dealing with grief.

"It’s important not to feel obligated, if you can help it, from doing things you don't feel like doing. So self-care is the most important thing to do. Also to remember that the grief reactions that you have during the holiday are very temporary. Next year will be a whole different picture," says Judian Wyatt, bereavement coordinator at Hospice and Palliative Care.

The Hospice and Palliative Care of Western Colorado offers different support groups for grief, including programs for education and programs for kids and teens, as well as peer support groups.

If you or someone you know is interested in the programs offered, you can call Judian at 970-241-2212
