GRAND JUNCTION, Colo (KKCO) -- Two bloodmobiles were at Grand Junction High School Tuesday, with roughly 70 students donating blood.
Officials are educating young people about giving back. Currently, only three percent of the population donates blood.
Students say it's a rewarding experience to help others.
"They asked me if I wanted to sign up, and I just got really excited to help other people; I thought it would be nice," said Shelby Brown, a student who donated blood.
Thirty high schools sponsor blood drives on the Western Slope. The next blood drive will be Tuesday, Oct. 23 at Central High School.
