GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) - One of Grand Junction's own is back home for a short time after a tour in Afghanistan.
First Lieutenant Jamie Johnson says she is so happy to be home to see her friends and family.
One of her fondest memories overseas was playing volleyball with the Afghan National Police. She said it was a big honor being invited to play as a woman.
One of the first things she noticed upon returning to Grand Junction was how green it is. Overall she is just happy to be home where her military roots started.
"I was in Jr. ROTC at Central. I did a lot of volunteer service. So Grand Junction pushed me into the Air Force Academy and I found a lot of success. And I’m actually proud to say there are a lot of successful people from Grand Junction, Colorado, that have come the same route that I did,” said Johnson.
She is set to leave for Travis Air Force base in California where she will be reunited with her husband, who also is in the Air Force.
