MESA COUNTY, Colo. (KKCO) -- One person is left without a home after a fire engulfs his house in Orchard Mesa.

The Grand Junction Fire Department received a report of fire in the 200 block of Beaver Street at 6:08 a.m. Friday.

When 19 firefighters arrived on scene, they found heavy fire coming from the roof and front of the house.

They chose a defensive attack to minimize risk to firefighters, which means they fought the flames from the outside instead of going inside.

The man inside was able to evacuate, according to GJFD. No injuries were reported.

Crews were able to contain the fire so it did not spread to nearby buildings.

The damage to the house was severe, making it a total loss. The cause is still under investigation.
