GRAND JUNCTION, Colo (KKCO) The Salvation Army is receiving hundreds of applications for Christmas assistance. Officials say they've received more than 500 applications so far from those in need of food and toys for their family this holiday season. Applicants must provide id, id for all of the children living in the home, proof of income, and a current utility bill or current signed lease within the last year.

"Whether it's adopt-a-family or picking up one of our giving tree tabs; whatever the community purchases for that child will go directly to that child; and they see that child; and their name; and there's a four year old that's asking for cars and trucks," said Captain Terrie Wilson with the Salvation Army.

The last day to apply for assistance is December 7th. Applications are accepted at the Salvation Army main office. That's at 1235 N. 4th Street in Grand Junction. Applications are accepted Monday through Thursday from 9-11:30am, and 1-3:30pm, and Friday from 9-11:30am. Applications will also be accepted during special evening hours on Tuesday, November 27th from 5-7pm, and Tuesday, December 4th from 5-7pm.
