Grand Junction, Colo. (KKCO) - A Grand Valley group is working with local agencies to improve volunteer opportunities.

Western Slope Directors of Volunteers in Agencies (DOVIA) wants to help organizations like Hospice and Partners with their volunteer management.

The group promotes professionalism and support and has training opportunities for volunteer managers. They are currently looking for new members.

"A lot of times, people in volunteer supervisor [roles] are the lone wolf in an organization, and so there's not a kind of support that is just for them, so this group is a support just for supervisors of volunteers," says Lexi Sherwood, who is part of DOVIA and the volunteer coordinator for the Center for Independence.

The support and networking group meets informally throughout the year. Membership is available for individuals, agencies or organizations that work with volunteers.
