CLIFTON, Colo. An investigation has been launched to determine the circumstances surrounding an incident Sunday night that ended with a man being shot by a Mesa County Sheriff's Office deputy.
At approximately 9:30 p.m. deputies were dispatched to the area of E Road and Mesa View Lane in Clifton for an adult male who called 9-1-1 making suicidal statements.
After making initial contact with the man at the corner of E Road and 33 Road, the deputy shot the man. The circumstances leading up to the shooting have not been released.
The man was transported to the hospital. He was conscious at the time of transport, but any updates on his condition since then have not been released.
We have the man's name from friends and family, but we have chosen not to release it out of respect for the man's privacy.
We spoke to a family member, who said he feels sorry for both the man and the officer under investigation.
"Hope that the result of this is that he recovers and he's healthy and changes his life," the family member said.
In order to investigate the officer-involved shooting, the 21st Judicial District Critical Incident Response Team has been activated. The investigation is being led by the Grand Junction Police Department.
