Is it time for you to have your mountian or road bike tuned-up ?

Grand Junction, Colo. (KKCO) - It's the off season for most bike riders. Now is the ideal time to pedal in to your local bike shop to get tuned up for the coming season. Local bike experts say you should have your bike checked out at least once a year and have it adjusted.

The trails can be hard on a bike. You will want to have your wheel bearings looked at, your drive train cleaned, and your brakes checked. Simple maintenance can help you get the most out of your bike. "The biggest thing is safety. But its kind of like changing the oil in your car, if you don't do it periodically it's going to wear out, and with anything that's mechanical stuff does wear out. So keeping on top of the condition of your bike so it doesn't wear out and break on you out in the middle of nowhere, especially when your mountain biking, is a good idea,” says Byan Miick, part owner of The Bike Shop on North Avenue.

Experts at The Bike Shop also say if you got a new bike for Christmas you want to make sure it is adjusted properly. You will also want to have it looked at periodically because parts can loosen faster on some of the newer bikes.
