GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. At a reception Thursday evening one local politician made a big announcement to his constituents.

Representative Jared Wright, from Fruita, launched his campaign for re-election to the Colorado State House at Conchita's Authentic Mexican restaurant.

Wright says Republicans faced significant attacks from Democrats this year and he plans on standing up for conservative values.

"It's just that out-of-touch leadership that we see or lack of leadership that we see on the front range," says Wright. "People don't understand how our way of life is over here and I feel it's my duty to defend it."

Wright is a former police officer for the City of Fruita and graduated from Mesa State College.

His first campaign was surrounded by controversy stemming from his resignation from the police department and allegations of inappropriate spending.
