GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO)-- Heather Jensen physically appeared in court this morning for the formal filing of her charges. The short hearing set Jensen's next court date for Thursday, Feb. 14 at 9 a.m.

Mesa County Judge Valerie Robison denied a motion filed by Jensen's lawyer, Ed Nugent, asking the court to seal the case.

In the motion, Nugent stated Jensen has "garnered a tremendous amount of publicity in the Grand Junction area," and the continued republication of information relating to her case jeopardizes her rights to a fair trial because "the jury pool is a relatively well defined and small population group within the Grand Valley area."

In a separate motion, Nugent also requested a gag order in the case, stating "there is a large group of people in this community with 'lynch mob' mentality about [Jensen] and this case."

Mesa County Assistant District Attorney Rich Tuttle opposed the motion for a gag order, stating it is unnecessary. Judge Robison has not yet filed a response to Nugent's request for a gag order.

Jensen is being held in the maximum security unit of Mesa County Jail because of her charges and the high profile manner of her case, according to Mesa County Sheriff's Office spokesperson Heather Benjamin.
