Montrose, Colo (KKCO) --- Vested Interest in K-9s is a volunteer charity that collects money to outfit U.S. law enforcement dogs in bulletproof and stab resistant vests.

Sergeant Keith Sanders, with the Montrose County Sheriff's Office, nominated their K-9, Oxx, to receive a vest and he became the 21st dog in the country to be given one.

Oxx is a sworn Deputy and is an asset to the community as he is certified in the detection of five illegal drugs and also tracks missing and fleeing people. Recently, his services led to a huge drug and gun bust at a routine traffic stop.

He has also been nominated for the 2013 American Humane Society Hero Dog Awards for his continued service to the community.
