Know More about the new health insurance law

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) Colorado Insurance Commissioner, Marguerite Salazar, answered some basic questions to make buying an insurance plan easier.

The Connect for Health Colorado website opens for enrollment on October 1 and people should be prepared before purchasing plans.

Q: What are the top three most important things people need to know before purchasing an insurance plan?

A: They need to talk to their insurance agent or broker, the second thing is what will the insurance cover or not cover, also you need to find out what doctors will be available in your plan

Q: What is the least amount people can expect to pay?

A: I've seen some for $200 to $300 when people are able to get their tax credit there are some plans available that cost $45 a month

Q: Some people's current insurance plans will increase because part of the law includes having 10 essential health benefits. What are they?

A: Prescriptions, laboratory, x-ray, acute care, hospitalization, maternity care, pediatric dental rehabilitative services and habilitative services

Q: What happens if people choose not to comply?

A: They will be penalized the first year it will be one percent of their net income or 95 dollars which ever is more after that the penalty does go up to four percent
