Large boulder closes one lane of I-70

GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colo. -- A boulder the size of a car blocked one westbound lane of Interstate-70 near Glenwood Springs, about two miles west of Hanging Lake.

Colorado Department of Transportation spokesman Mike Murray says no one was injured when a rock fell on the highway on Monday. Crews had to break up the rock and haul it away piece by piece.

CDOT says the westbound lanes were closed intermittently throughout the day for rock removal. The boulder caused a one-foot wide pothole in the road.

CDOT rockfall specialists were on site to determine if any follow up work is necessary.
