DELTA, Colo. (KKCO) - A fire sparked by a lightning strike on the Uncompahgre plateau is burning at Franks Bench, three miles south of Uranium Road and approximately five miles south and west of the Divide Forks campground and ATV Complex.

Reported by interagency resources from the US Forest Service and the BLM, the Frank Bench Fire was detected on August 16 and was determined to be caused by a lightning strike from a strom which occurred five or six days earlier.

Firefighters are working to suppress the fire, but due to the hazardous terrain, suppression and containment will occur in areas which can be safely accessed by firefighters.

There are no road or trail closures at this time, but the Forest Service is urging the public to avoid the area affected by the fire. This includes trails in the Blue Creek park area.
