Grand Junction, Colo. (KKCO) - Lincoln Park is getting a new playground, and the city is turning to the community to help pick the new equipment.

On Tuesday, at the Lincoln Park barn, members of the community were able to view the final two options for the playground. The old playground was built 15 years ago. It is a very popular park and the equipment gets lots of use. That means the equipment is worn down and not as safe as the new equipment will be.
The new playground will be one of the few in Mesa County that will be handicap accessible. It is being funded by a $250,000 Great Outdoors grant.

"It was really important for us to get community feedback because that's actually how we got the Great Outdoors Colorado grant, This time last year, in 2011, we went to the community and said "what do you think we should do with Lincoln Park?", and they came back with a lot of different options and ideas,” says Traci Wieland, the Mesa County recreation superintendent.

City officials say they will consider the input and make a decision by Wednesday night. The new playground should be open for use by late spring or early summer.
