Lincoln Park to see boost in parking spaces

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) - Large events draw large crowds, and large crowds often need a lot of parking space.

Right now at Lincoln Park, there are 400 parking spaces, and the athletic stadiums alone can comfortably hold between 8,000 and 10,000 people.

The problem, according to Grand Junction's Parks and Recreation Director Rob Schoeber, has to do with space.

"We are constrained by parking conditions here," says Schoeber. "We don’t have any additional land that we can actually acquire, so we have to work with what we have in the park boundaries”.

They are addressing the problem as well as they can through renovations.

“The most noticeable renovation will have to do with our tennis courts," Schroeber says, "which we will reconfigure the tennis court area and remove some of our horseshoe pits that are currently on site, then extend our parking back into our park maintenance area. All in all, we’ll pick up about 110 new parking spaces”.

Despite the new spaces, people will still need to use off-site parking for events like the Junior College World Series. The city urges fans to avoid parking in tenant-only spaces for their own protection because if caught, they will most likely be towed at their own expense.
