3rd graders hunt for environmental knowledge

FRUITA, Colo. (KKCO) - Devil's Canyon earned it's title today, but the heat didn't fry Scenic elementary school's 3rd graders.

The students participated in a nature scavenger hunt hosted by the Colorado Canyons Association and the BLM. It included 10 stations focusing on the geology, nature, wildlife, and ecology our canyons.

Throwing spears, painting, and learning about bugs were just a few of the activities the students took part in, and the overall effort was geared towards teaching the kids how important our land is.

“We’re trying to raise future conservationists," says Joe Neuhof, the executive director of the Colorado Canyons Association, "if we don’t teach our children to love the public land, then the public land will be hurt in the long run”.
