The Grand Junction Police commander who died unexpectedly last week will be laid to rest today.

Cmdr. Greg Assenmacher will be remembered this morning during funeral services at Fellowship Church in Grand Junction at 11 a.m., followed by a burial at Orchard Mesa Cemetery.

GJPD says traffic may be impacted between 12:30 and 1 p.m. as the procession drives from the church on 24 Road to Riverside Parkway, then moves onto Highway 50 to the cemetery.

Family and friends of Assenmacher have set up a memorial fund at Wells Fargo Bank.

If you'd like to make a contribution to the Haley and Madison Assenmacher fund, you can do so at any Wells Fargo branch and at the Western Slope Center for Children.

Assenmacher served many roles at the Grand Junction Police Department during his 32 years of service.
