MCSO Deputy K-9 Oxx receives special vest

MONTROSE, Colo. (KKCO) – Patrol K-9 Oxx from the Montrose County Sheriff’s Office will receive a new bullet/stab-proof vest through Vested Interest in K-9.

Oxx’s handler, Sergeant Keith Sanders, nominated K-9 through Vested Interested in K-9s Inc., which is a non-profit dedicated to providing law enforcement dogs bullet and stab protective vests.

K-9 Oxx was the 21st on the list to receive a vest and on Mar. 13 Sergeant Sanders was informed that K-9 Oxx would be receiving a new vest.

Vested Interest in K-9s Inc., partnered with Groupon Grassroots to raise funds for dogs across the country. On Mar. 20, Vested Interest in K-9’s had raised $155,375, which will provide 163 K-9’s with vests in 30 states.

K-9 Oxx is certified in the detection of five different illegal narcotics and is also certified in tracking. He is a 3-year-old Belgian Malinois, and is considered a Deputy with the MCSO. Oxx plays a big role in keeping Montrose area residents safe and is available for school sniffs and public demonstrations.
