Grand Junction, Colo. (KKCO) --- This morning, a resident on J road found a man in a white truck trespassing on his property.

After the suspect ignored the resident's requests for him to leave, the Mesa County Sheriff's Office was called in to handle the issues.

Law enforcement arrived on scene and pulled up behind the suspect. However, before deputies were even able to approach the man's truck, he stepped on the gas and drove directly into the canal.

"He exited the truck as the vehicle sank and floated down the canal," said Deputy Ben Carnes.

The man ignored deputies' requests to get out of the water for several minutes before he finally emerged from the water.

At the request of the homeowner, officers did a preliminary search of the surrounding property for anyone else who may have been involved, but did not find anything.

While it is still under investigation, officials say that they do not believe that alcohol or drugs were a factor during the incident.
