GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) – The City of Grand Junction has updated their municipal code dealing with minors caught with marijuana to match the state's penalties.

In November of 2012, Colorado voters approved amendment 64. The state made penalties for minors in possession of the drug tougher. The Grand Junction City Council unanimously passed the ordinance making the penalties in the city tougher for minors caught with marijuana. The maximum penalty will now be a fine of $100 and up to 24 hours of community service.

City officials say that it happens time to time when we need to up-date local ordinances to match state ones.
