Matchett Park public meeting

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. Grand Junction is already home to many beautiful parks, used for plenty of outdoor recreational activities.

But Thursday night, community members got the chance to discuss plans for another piece of land the city picked up back in 1996.

It was a packed house at Faith Heights Church while city officials revealed for the first time their plans for Matchett Park.

And attendees also got their chance to provide plenty of feedback.

"It gives them a general introduction to the project and the process," says Recreation Superintendent and project coordinator, Traci Wieland. "But it also gives them the opportunity to participate it what's called keypad polling so they'll be asked a series of questions and they'll be able to see results for the entire room real-time so it's really an awesome experience."

Project officials were very pleased with the turnout for the first night of meetings.

Over the next three months, Grand Junction City officials will have meetings to go over and discuss all of the feedback.

Then they'll be presenting a conceptual plan to city council in the late spring or early summer.
