Grand Junction, Colo. (KKCO) --- The Springhill Suites in downtown Grand Junction played host to the Mesa County Fair commercial winemakers competition today.
Eighty-nine wines were judged by wine experts and sommeliers from across the nation and were given either gold, silver or bronze medals.
Mesa County fairgrounds manager, Jo Carole Haxel, says that the competition is really meant to highlight the Grand Valley.
"This competition showcases all of those terrific grapes, and vintners and wineries that we have right here in mesa county," said Haxel.
Most of the participants were local wineries and when the judging was complete, the top wine received the Commissioner's Cup Award for best-in-show.
