Meth lab bust in Colorado River camp

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) -- A meth lab was uncovered on an island in the Colorado River, near the Fifth Street bridge, according to Grand Junction Police Department officers.

The Western Colorado Drug Task Force made two arrests for possession and distribution of illegal substances which let to the discovery.

Christopher Dugan was arrested for possession, distribution and manufacturing of illegal substances, and Scott Samples was arrested for possession.

"We had our drug task force officers go down to the area, and they did find evidence that somebody had been making meth down in the area," said GJPD public information officer Kate Porras.

Porras said the lab was much smaller than some might imagine.

"You have to realize that this isn't something that you would see in a high school science lab. It's not that type per say; it's much smaller. You are out there with no electricity. It's just using the materials used to make meth on a much smaller scale," said Porras.

Porras said if people see suspicious behavior, it is a good idea to call the GJPD non emergency number at 242-6707.
