MONTROSE COUNTY, Colo. (KKCO) -- Montrose is the latest Colorado county to issue a fire ban.
According to our partners at the Montrose Daily Press, Sheriff Rick Dunlap says the ban went into effect Wednesday morning as plant moisture levels decrease every day and are already at critical levels in lower elevations.
All open fires, fireworks and public firework displays are now prohibited in unincorporated Montrose County after the commissioners there implemented the ban.
Grand Junction fire officials tell KKCO 11 News it's likely Mesa County will follow suit, but they haven't heard any specifics.
