Montrose PD bike patrol unit training

Montrose, Colo (KKCO) --- The Montrose Police Department began training officers for their newly remodeled bicycle patrol unit.

The department provided the 10 bike patrol officers new mountain bikes and they were taught proper safety and cycling techniques, how to avoid obstacles and about speed maneuvers.

According to patrolman Larry Witte, the bike patrol is effective in surveillancing areas, like parks and alleyways, where patrol vehicles can not get into. Being on a bike is also a more casual approach to a problem and is more effective in diffusing the situation.
