GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) – A mountain lion was found wandering on Grand Junction Regional Airport grounds this morning.
Airport director Rex Tippetts confirmed today that an airline employee spotted the lion, but he would not say exactly where. It walked around the area for about an hour, then peacefully left on its own.
Tippetts said it must have gotten through a space that is not covered by the wildlife fence surrounding the airport.
The $3.4 million, federally funded fence was built to keep out animals after the FAA conducted a wildlife assessment and cited a fence as a long-term solution.
The fence has been a local point of contention since it was built. General aviation groups say it is blocking out business that freely came and went before it went up.
