New proposal for coal mining north of Loma

LOMA, Colo. With about 78 million tons of coal still untouched in the Book Cliffs, mining in the area is not a new trend.

But a proposal to expand an existing operation in the area has encouraged the Bureau of Land Management to reach out for public input.

As they gear up to begin their environmental impact study, they want as much guidance from the public as they can get.

During the process of deciding what to do with the proposal, the public will have three opportunities to provide feedback to the BLM; the scoping period, during the drafting of the environmental analysis and after the environmental analysis is completed.

The first opportunity will be on February 25th from 5:30-7:30 at the Two Rivers Convention Center.
