GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) -- An alarming new study reveals more teens are being diagnosed with Melanoma- the most deadly form of skin cancer.

Galina Warren, a nurse practitioner specializing in dermatology, is concerned about new statistics revealing more teens are being diagnosed with Melanoma- the most life threatening form of skin cancer.

"Particularly the Melanoma that they get from tanning beds is one of the deadliest," says Galina Warren, owner of Gj Skin Clinic.

Melanoma is attributed to genetics and too much sun-exposure.

Warren feels teens using indoor tanning beds is the problem, but local tanning salon owner, Scott Young, takes on a different stance.

"The Pharmaceutical and Dermatology Industry makes money to get everybody's skin, appearance, complexion, to look like Nicole Kidman's," says Young.

Young says tanning beds can be a way to obtain Vitamin D, an essential vitamin we need. The tanning salon owner says, like with all things, moderation is key.

"Moderate tanning on a consistent basis, like you work out with don't go too hard too fast."

Warren agrees we do get Vitamin D through tanning beds, but she feels there are other ways to obtain the vitamin.

"Make sure that you supplement with vitamins over the counter- they are available in any pharmacy," says Warren.

Warrens says if the risk of Melanoma won't scare teens from tanning, then aging is something else for them to think about.

"Before you start on your perfect tan, look at a raisin...see how wrinkled it is," says Warren.
