Officials react to leak near New Castle

New Castle, Colo. (KKCO) --- In early July, a leaking valve on a pipeline between Silt and New Castle spilled about 2,100 gallons or fifty barrels of produced water.

The leak occurred on pasture land called Kokopelli field and officials say much of the liquid was soaked into the dry earth, allowing WPX to recover only about one barrel of water.

But WPX officials say the site is safe.

"Because we've handled over 20,000,000 barrels of water through that system, since 2009, we're confident the system works," says WPX spokesperson, Susan Alvillar. "Its integrity is good, this just happened and we took care of it."
