GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) -- A man sustains serious injuries after his car slams into a tree.

The accident happened around 4:15 p.m. Saturday. Colorado State Patrol responded to 1926 South Broadway where the driver of a Bradley Roadster had lost control and over corrected, causing his car to slam right into a tree.

The 50-year old driver, Ricky Houtris from Grand Junction, sustained minor injuries, but his passenger, a 49-year old man, had to be cut free from the car by the fire department. Both men were wearing their seat belts.

The driver was cited for careless driving resulting in bodily injury. Excessive speed is believed to be a contributing factor in the crash.
