GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) -- The Mesa County Clerk and Recorder, Sheila Reiner, is among ten Colorado County Clerks who submitted a letter to Secretary of State Scott Gessler's office yesterday voicing concerns about new voter registration systems.

Reiner said she believes components such as the online voter registration were not properly tested before being implemented.

"Anytime you roll out a new idea or new system, just like GoVoteColorado.com using an online system to register to vote, it's a great service, it's very cool and trendy and nice and easy to use, but if it's not thoroughly tested and load tested, then failures happen," Reiner said.

Gessler's spokesperson Rich Coolidge said the online system, GoVoteColorado.com, received much higher volume than expected, causing intermittent delays today-- the last day to register-- and throughout the last several weeks. Nonetheless, Coolidge said the benefits of the new systems, such as reaching out to new demographics, outweigh the problems.

"We see the benefit as far out weighing the issues we've faced," Coolidge said. "We've seen tens of thousands of people use the mobile voter registration system. We saw a couple hundred slip through the cracks and we definitely want to make sure those people are engaged and update their registration as well."

Reiner said if your online voter registration did not go through, you can sign an affidavit saying you attempted to register before tonight's deadline, and the elections office will be able to emergency register you.
