Open house for revitalizing North Avenue

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) – Businesses along what used to be the "main drag" in Grand Junction gathered Tuesday afternoon for a look at the future of the street and how they might fit into it.

The North Avenue Zoning Overlay District open house was held at A Taste of Heaven Catering.

City of Grand Junction officials say the zoning overlay district proposed for North Avenue is a tool for property owners when considering developing or redeveloping their property along the street.

Possible plans include buildings closer to the road, different signage, and wider sidewalks with more room for pedestrians and landscaping.

Representatives from the newly formed North Avenue Owners Association were also at the open house to discuss their role in promoting and revitalizing North Avenue.

Information was also given tonight about the federal highway grant the city received to help renovate the roads from 1st Street to 29 Road.
