Grand Junction, Colo. (KKCO) – The Palisade Police Department has two new additions that they rolled out Monday afternoon. The department showed off their new 4 x 4 Humvees at Riverbend Park in Palisade.
The department’s new chief of police, Tony Erickson, was able to get the Humvees as part of the 1033 program. This is a program where military vehicles are swapped-out and given to police departments.
"Because of our limited budget and resources we needed a vehicle that is very operational, that's as clean as we can get one and as the story went we ended up with two," says Tony Erickson, Chief of the Palisade Police Department.
The vehicles will be used in emergencies such as a mud slide. The town is now trying to figure out a way to fundraise, to paint the outside of the vehicles.
