RIFLE, Colo. (KKCO) – The man who died Wednesday in a head-on crash has been identified as Palisade resident Eric Jensen, 26.

Colorado State Patrol Trooper John Williams says the crash happened at 6:26 a.m. Wednesday on Garfield County Road 319.

Jensen, driving northbound in a 1991 Acura Integra, lost control as he came around a curve. His car ended up broadside in the southbound lane and crashed into a 1985 Jeep Cherokee, says Williams.

Jensen was pronounced dead on the scene.

Justin Robinson, who was in the Jeep, was taken to Grand River Hospital in Rifle with non-life threatening injuries. No one else was riding in either vehicle.

According to Williams, speed is suspected as a contributing factor to this accident, but the cause is still under investigation. The weather was clear and dry at the time.

CSP wants to remind drivers to always wear a seatbelt and follow speed limits. Williams says Robinson was wearing a seatbelt, but Jensen was not wearing his properly.
