Pedestrian struck by SUV in Clifton

CLIFTON, Colo. (KKCO) -- A female pedestrian is struck by a woman driving an SUV outside of Clifton Elementary School on F Road just before 11:30 Monday night.

The 31-year-old woman was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries.

Colorado State Patrol says she was wearing dark-colored clothing, walking in an un-lit area, and not using a crosswalk, although one was just 50 feet away.

The driver has been identified as a Grand Junction resident in her 40s. She was driving a 2000 black Dodge Durango and showed no signs of impairment, according to CSP.

CSP wants to remind all pedestrians that if you must walk at night, try to wear reflective clothing, and stay in well-lit areas where crosswalks and sidewalks are available.
