PALISADE, Colo. The moment many have been waiting for all year has arrived and it's even juicier and sweeter than usual.

"Always look forward to peaches," said Harvey Collins, who got to take a bite of a High Country Orchards peach Wednesday.

High Country Orchards had its first harvest Wednesday of the earlier cling variety.

"We'll have truly fresh picked peaches by this afternoon and throughout the weekend," said Theresa, High, of High Country Orchards.

Growers are seeing a full crop this year with sweet and large peaches thanks to a mild spring combined with the hot weather over the past few weeks.

"This is the most exciting time for us because we're finally getting into actually seeing the fruits of our labor as they say," High said. "We start pruning the trees around Thanksgiving for this harvest."

High Country Orchards has the peaches from Wednesday's harvest for sale at their country store, which is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The free stone variety of peaches will start being picked within the next couple of weeks.
