DEBEQUE, Colo. Nearly 14,000 acres of land damaged in the Pine Ridge fire has been reopened to the public.
The Bureau of Land Management decided to lift the closure on the area after seeing progress in the rehabilitation of plant life.
The area originally wasn't scheduled to be reopened until January 2015.
The fire started in late June 2012 from a lightning strike.
The chief of the DeBeque Fire Department said this year's fire season has been much slower than usual with a lower percentage of fires being started by natural causes.
