MONTROSE, Colo. (KKCO) --- Since 2011, the Montrose Recreation District has been working to refine the plan for a brand new community recreation center.
Officials with the district say they feel they aren't currently meeting the community's needs for indoor recreation space.
On Wednesday, they held two meetings to obtain feedback from locals and find out what exactly they want to see in the new center.
"It'd be nice to have some newer updated facilities," says Montrose resident, David Woodruff. "I think it's going to be a multi-purpose facility which is going to be nice more than just the swim facility that they have here."
Instead of closing down the aquatic center, officials plan to continue using the building.
One proposed plan called for filling in the indoor pool and replacing it with sports turf for an indoor soccer field.
The district has obtained 26 acres of land near Wal-Mart for the proposed center.
"It's exciting," says Woodruff. "I think its something that the community definitely needs it's something that I think all ages would be able to use and looking forward to something that would develop the community even further."
