COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) -- Colorado Springs police say a homemade bomb made with commercial fireworks was found just blocks from a park and an elementary school.
Police say someone spotted the device just before 10 a.m. Sunday. KUSA-TV (http://on9news.tv/16C67At ) reports that a police bomb squad rendered the bomb safe without having to detonate it.
Police Sgt. Chris Areseneau says the bomb was made with the same materials used in the bombs that exploded at the Boston Marathon last month. He says it could have caused a lot of damage and would have hurt anyone nearby if it had exploded.
Investigators are hoping to pull fingerprints from the device to help identify a suspect.
