POWDERHORN RESORT, Colo. (KKCO) People hitting the slopes on the Mesa this season will be glad to hear Powderhorn road is now safer after a construction project has been completed.

The two lane road leading to the Powderhorn Mountain Resort is about fifty-years-old and was in desperate need of repair.

"The road had taken quite a beating," says Mesa County Commissioner, Steve Aquafresca. "Up at this elevation with as much snow as they get, these are very harsh conditions for road maintenance."

During construction, the project hit a few snags, as crews had to deal with several large boulders that caused trouble for engineers during excavation.

In total the project cost $400,000 dollars but officials say the improvements will lead to big economic benefits for the resort and the county.
